The Rotary Club of Adliya was chartered in the Kingdom of Bahrain in July 1994 as the third Rotary club under the umbrella of the Rotary International.
Rotary is a worldwide organization of more than 1.2 million business, professional, and community leaders. Members of Rotary clubs, known as Rotarians, provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build goodwill and peace in the world.
There are over 32,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas. Clubs are nonpolitical, nonreligious and open to all cultures, races, and creeds. As signified by the motto “Service Above Self” Rotary’s main objective is service — in the community, the workplace and throughout the world.
The Rotary Club of Adliya has been active along with its sisters clubs in projects undertaken since its inception in 1994 which include holding the renowned annual Model United Nation Assembly for Youth, Assisting the Ministry of Labour of the Kingdom of Bahrain in establishing Career Expo – a career Fair for Young Job Seekers; organizing outings and activities for the elderly and less privileged families; arranging events where the funds raised were donated in support of variety of social humanitarian projects; raising BD 40,000 from the annual Bahrain Golf Invitational that was donated to Al Wafa Center, a project initiated and developed by the Club; raising funds for the purchase of various medical equipments and the highly successful Earth Day Art Competition (http://earthdaybahrain.org) through which BD20,000 was donated to the Ministry of Social Development toward its building an art workshop for persons of special needs. Some of those paintings created at the Competition are available for sale on a specially created website at http://earthdaybahrain.org. The proceeds of their sales will go toward the various club activities and endeavours within the community.
One of the many social humanitarian activities of the Club is The Restoration of Houses of the needy families. The Club has been working in association with the Bahrain Philanthropic Society and Bahrain Duty Free Company for this cause. Several houses have been restored with many others are currently being planned to be restored. This is an on going project where funds raised from Collection boxes placed at the Bahrain International Airport plus other specific projects are earmarked for the Restoration of Houses. This worthy project was handed over completely to the Bahrain Philanthropic Society to completely manage and progress by PP Talal Al-Mannai during his tenure so that the club can pursue other worth causes in the future, offering the club’s full assistance to the BPS whenever it is required.
There are several projects executed in the Rotary Year 2007-2008 and the funds raised are all marked for specific humanitarian projects. Among the projects actioned for that year were:
- Bowling Competition: funds shall be used for the purchase of Computers and other peripherals for Information Technology Bus. This is one of the Ministry of Social Development Projects aimed to eradicate the Information Technology among the residents of the Kingdom.
- Earth Day Art Competition: The Club in association with Ispektrum-Bahrain, shall hold this event and funds raised shall be used in provision of a workshop for arts and crafts, including painting, for the less privileged people.
- Other Humanitarian projects: The Club plans to hold several of these projects in addition to what have been held over the last period of the Rotary Year
