History of the Rotary Club of Adliya

21 March 2008
Raised BD26,700 in the first Rotary Club of Adliya “Earth Day” Art Competition. BD20,000 dedicated to the establishment of a Disabled Art Centre and Workshop at the Ministry of Social Affairs. BD2,000 were dedicated to help the destitute Filipino workers in Bahrain. Over 220 paintings were created and a lot of them are destined to be sold to generate even more money to charitable causes.

2 – 7 May 2000
Received the Soubhi Tibi Shield for Best Public Relation in District 2450, Second Place for Best Youth Project for MUNA and a Special Certificate of Merit jointly with other Rotary and Rotaract Clubs of Bahrain for CAREER EXPO 2000 at the 64th District Conference of District 2450 in Beirut, Lebanon

7 – 9 April, 2000
Co-Organized with other sister Rotary Clubs of Bahrain and the Manama-Sulmaniya Rotaract Club the second CAREER EXPO 2000 which was attended by about 3000 young graduates and job-seekers.

3 – 4 April, 2000
Organized the sixth Model United Nations Assembly for Youth

November 1999
Organized a very successful first “Bahrain Golf Invitational 1999″ at the Riffa Golf Club With the participation of 240 golfers in a three day event. The most successful fund-raiser the Club has achieved.

30 April, 1999
Received the Soubhi Tibi Shield for the best performance in Public Relations, and the Governors Cup for the best club in Bahrain, at the 63rd District Conference in Limassol, Cyprus.

29 April, 1999
Exchanged Banners and Signed Twinning with the Jazirat Al Rawda Club (Cairo, Egypt) during the 63rd District Conference in Cyprus.

October 1998
Completion, furnishing and handing-over of two porta-cabins constructed for the Al Wafa Center for Autistic and mentally retarded children–The beginning of the club’s association with the Al Wafa center.

11 – 12 April 1998
Co-Organized the First Career Expo in cooperation with the Rotary Clubs of Manama and Sulmaniya, and the Rotaract Club of Manama-Sulmaniya.

April, 1997
Received the Fayez Mansour Shield for the best Youth Activity, for the MUNA project, at the 61st District Conference in, Amman, Jordan.

16 December 1996
Established the first Interact Club in Bahrain., the Interact Club of Adliya.

November 1996
Organized the first Charity Golden Gala Dinner.

15 June 1996
Sponsored the development of a social area for the patients at the Psychiatric Hospital.

19 April 1996
First major fund raising project (AQUA CHALLENGE) held at Al Bandar Resort.

12-14 April 1995

  • President Rashed signed the charter of certificate of twinning of the Zgharta Zawie in Lebanon and the Adliya Club in Manama at the 59th Conference of District 2450 held in Bahrain.
  • Adliya Club organised and hosted the first Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA) project and resolved to make it an annual event for the club
  • Rotary Club of Adliya participated / co-hosted the 1994/95 Group Study Exchange (GSE) in Bahrain

    The first 3 Paul Harris Fellows were approved.

    24 October 1994
    Charter Presentation Night opened by President Rashed Fakhro held at the Diplomat Hotel. First 3 ladies to join Rotary in Bahrain.

    RI President, Bill Huntley’s letter welcoming Rotary Club of Adliya to Rotary International.

    4 August 1994
    Letter from RI Zurich confirming admission to Rotary International.

    18 July 1994
    DG Khalid Almoayed attended meeting. Formal registration forms signed.

    11 July 1994
    Meeting for electing the first Board of Directors.

    4 July 1994
    First meeting of Provisional Rotary Club of Adliya.

    27 June 1994
    First meeting of Invitees (recommended by Steering Committee) to Provisional Club of Adliya.

    13 June 1994
    At the invitation of PP Nashat Kotani, DG special Representative, a formation meeting (Steering Committee of 15 people) established the name, lady membership, evening meetings, fees, signatories, and adoption of Sulmaniya Club by-laws.
