100926 – GDN – A Step Forward to Help Children

A WALKATHON to raise money for women and children suffering from potentially fatal diseases in Bahrain will take place next weekend.

The Rotary Club of Adliya will stage the event between the Muharraq bridges on Friday.

Half of the funds raised will go towards the Gift of Life Bahrain project, which aims to help children with congenital heart disease and the rest to Think Pink Bahrain’.

It is hoped enough money will be collected to buy a new advanced MRI scanning machine for Salmaniya Medical Complex.

According to latest figures, 826 patients were born with congenital heart diseases between June 2006 and June this year, significantly higher than global rates.

It is hoped up to 2,000 people will take part in the walkathon, which is approximately 5km.

“No society or community, whether local or foreign, operating in Bahrain, is excluded from the RCA’s community action,” said Rotary Club president Mahmood Al Yousif.

Registration will begin from 1.30pm with the event starting at 3pm.

The route circular includes the “old and new” Muharraq bridges and will start at the Al Ghous Corniche Park in Muharraq.

Entry will be BD2 for adults and BD1 for children below 15.
