A CHARITY bowling tournament being organised by the Rotary Club of Adliya is set to get underway tomorrow at Funland Centre’s bowling lanes.
The tournament aims to raise funds for the purchase of computer equipment for a Ministry of Social Development venture known as the ‘Information Technology Bus’.
“We at the rotary club would like to help the Ministry with their efforts in this project, which would be greatly beneficial to many Bahraini families,” organising committee chairman Hassan Al Balooshi told the GDN.
A total prize money of BD1,800 will be up for grabs in the three-week competition, with BD600 going to the overall champion.
The tournament’s opening tomorrow will include an inauguration ceremony at 7.30pm, after which players will begin the qualifying phase which will continue until January 29.
Registration fee is BD5, while each trial during the course of the qualification round will cost BD4. Players may play as many trials as they wish.
Participants will be divided into two categories. Group ‘A’ will comprise Bahrain’s well-known elite bowlers, while group ‘B’ will be for lady participants and other entrants.
At the end of the qualification period, the best 15 of each group, based on their qualifying averages, move on to the second round, with the top three of each automatically advancing to the third round.
Round two will thus be contested by 24 bowlers in all, 12 in each group, over six games. The top five of Group ‘A’ and top five of Group ‘B’ later advance to round three to join the six bowlers who earlier gained their berths.
The 16 will now compete against each other regardless of their previous groups. The top eight at the end of this six-game round then advance to the match-play quarter-finals.
In the last eight, the top seeds cross over to play the lower seeds, pitting first against eighth, second against seventh, and so on. Each match-up will consist of two games, with the winners (based on total pinfalls) moving on to the semi-finals, where the same format will be followed.
The semi-final winners will face off in a sudden-death one-game final.
The second round will be played on January 30, while round three all the way to the final game will take place the following day.
Other prizes: Daily High Series, BD10, to be awarded during qualifying period; Group ‘A’ High Qualifier, BD40; Group ‘B’ High Qualifier, BD40; Second place overall, BD300; Third and fourth overall, BD150; Fifth to eighth overall, BD100.
